Murals by artist Allen True, showcasing the importance of water to Colorado, adorn the first floor rotunda near the grand staircase with accompanying poetry by Colorado poet laureate Thomas H. Ferril. Visitors will enjoy standing on the “Mile High Marker”, one of three on the west steps of the capitol—exactly 5,280 feet above sea level. The most accurate is on the 13th step!
