Twenty-six of the gothic niches that grace the exterior are filled with statuary of famous Connecticut citizens. The interior has been restored and has much to offer, including intricate stenciling and marble floors. Visitors will want to locate the Genius of Connecticut, the Nathan Hale statue, and the Charter Oak Chair to learn the unique history of each.

Tour Hours:
 • Monday - Friday 9:15 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 1:15 p.m. During July and August, an additional tour is offered at 2:15.

Closed weekends, all state solidays, the day after Thanksgiving and December 24 - January 1.

Tours begin at adjacent Legislative Office Building (300 Capitol Avenue), through the tunnel. For those who do not wish to walk the distance to the Legislative Office, you may join the group thirty minutes after a tour begins; wait for the group in the capitol rotunda to join the tour already in progress!

I really enjoyed visiting the city of Hartford, Connecticut and it's beautiful capitol building on JUNE 13th. I love the gothic look that it presents and was able to see the Gov as she entered the building! her staff presented us with nice pen sets!!!

I have been to only nine state houses since I started in 2008 - well, I do live in England! However, having visited Hartford only last week (3rd August 2010) I can safely say that it is the most beautiful so far. They are all impressive in their own way, but this is a belter! We met the Governor, were given a few gifts and the tour guide, Alice Hinchcliffe, was great too.
