The South Dakota state capitol offers guided tours by appointment only; call the number above at least forty-eight hours in advance to make arrangements.
The capitol is also open for self-guided tours, according to the following schedule for general hours:
Thanksgiving through mid-March open at 8 a.m. with extended evening hours; please call ahead to verify closing time.
Mid-March through Thanksgiving: Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 7 p.m., Saturday, Sunday, and holidays 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Pre-stamped cards for the date of your visit may be available in the rotunda. If not, please call 605-773-3688 during weekdays so that the stamp may be brought to you.

Visited on a weekend and the security guard located the stamp for us. Interesting fact is that the artisans who put in the terrazzo floor each were given a blue tile to put in the floor as their “signature.” Fun to find the tiles while touring around!
